MC Lyte Achieves the Rights to her Stage Name After 30 years.

Lana Michele Moorer better known to hiphop fans everywhere as Mc Lyte, rejoices after finally reclaiming all the rights to her stage name Mc Lyte which she created 30 years ago

she shares her back ground story on Instagram, she created the name Mc Lyte in 1985before she signed to Priority Records. Priority Records is where she released

"After learning that the copyright was close to expiration from her old friend and former First Priority label mate DJ Nat “Gizmo” Robinson, she took his advice and made moves to reclaim ownership with help from her legal team." (rock the bells).

A lot artist when they take that leap and sign their first record deal they miss important info regarding their royalties and rights to their own art. Mc Lyte as achieved what many artists wish they can accomplish especially as an old school emcee. The mid to late 80s rappers were beginning to really get signed to these labels in flocks. These label executives found out how much of a cash cow rappers can be and how young they were to easily manipulate these artist for their royalties.
